2006 Southern Region Awards
Banquet and Show
Looking for facilities for
the 2006 SR banquet and show location started over 2 years ago when Michelle
Cooney volunteered to look for a Washington or Baltimore location. She and
others including Ellyn Honey looked for suitable facilities. After searching
for almost 2 years, they did not feel they could find anything suitable.
Finding a show hall and a pet friendly banquet hotel in the same city is not an
easy task.
During
the next few months, several people pitched in. Melanie Morgan checked out
Richmond locations but could not find a pet friendly hotel large enough to
handle our banquet. Liz Whittle took over and checked out Charlotte but the
Hilton was already booked for our weekend and no other facilities were
available. For the past two months, locations in
Greensboro,
Augusta, Charlotte, and Winston Salem have been checked out with the help of
Susan Murphy, Liz Whittle, Rob Miller, and Teresa Keiger.
Much
work has been put into finding a location for a banquet and show hall that can
accommodate the number of Southern Region exhibitors that like to participate in
this event. For the past few years, banquet attendance has exceeded 260 people
and show entries have exceeded 320 cats. Rather than settling for a location
that would require us to limit the number of folks and cats that can be
included, we kept looking for a place big enough for all.
In
February 2006, a hotel banquet facility and show hall has been located in
Winston Salem, North Carolina. Our banquet will be at the Hawthorne Inn whose
banquet facilities can accommodate 300 people. The show will be held at the
Benton
Convention Center
which is only a few minutes from the hotel.
A big thanks to those
who worked on finding a spot for our Southern Region festivities. Many people
are already working on our awards program and show. Photos are already being
collected. Additional information will be distributed as soon as it is
available.
