The 2012 Southern Region exhibitor of the year Patricia Hawk has
been part of the cat fancy
since 1984.An animal fancier since childhood, she also has been involved in raising and showing quarter horses as well as breeding and showing English Springer Spaniels, Yorkshire Terriers and Maltese. Heavily involved in animal rescue, she worked with wildlife rehabilitation in the early 1980s. She established a cat rescue emergency program following Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and joined the West Volusia Humane Society volunteering to do whatever needed doing. Since 1994 she has been a member of the West Volusia Humane Society Board of Directors and to-date remains a member supporting their no-kill shelter. In 1995 she started a CFA cat club called Tropical Cats Inc. which produces an all-breed show each year at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, with proceeds being donated to private shelters and rescue groups. Continuing her dedication to the fancy and to animals everywhere, she is deeply involved in researching and communicating information about anti pet / anti breeder legislation in the South East United States. She is also the funds raising chairperson of the National Interest Alliance of Florida and serves on the board of directors of KitnHevn Feline Rescue. She also serves as CFA's representative on the Gertrude Maxwell "Save a Pet" commission. After almost sixty years of the breeding, showing, and care of the finest animals in America, she is aware of the problems and joys of being a responsible and ethical hobby breeder and tirelessly mentors and guides people throughout our fancy. Her CFA exhibitor experience includes Persians, Manx, American Short Hairs as well as her current love --- the Sphynx and she is the proud human friend of CFA's very first Sphynx breeder winner since their most recent advancement to championship status. An Artist, an educator, an organizer and a mentor --- and always a truly dedicated member of the cat fancy. |
