Communicating
I  have communicated with folks in our region via the region's Yahoo Group, also known as the Southern Region List.  If you want to keep up to date, you should belong to this List.  Click here to subscribe.  Through that List I have provided lots of information including financial reports for the Region.

President Hamza
Jerry2
I also held a Regional Meeting at the Hidden Peak Cat Club's show in Timonium, Maryland, on August 15th.  It followed a Townhall Meeting conducted by CFA President Jerry Hamza.  At this meeting Karen Boyce provided an update on the 2011 Annual on behalf of Susan Henry & Donna Thompson who could not be present.  Their report is in the "Files" section of our region's Yahoo Group.  I hope to hold Regional Meetings throughout the Region to give you a chance to ask questions and get information.

Regional Finances

money_question
We provide monthly Regional financial reports which show money taken in and money spent.   I send out a post on the SR List when they are available.   They can be found in our region's Yahoo Group "Files" Section.  If you have further questions after reviewing these reports, please contact our Regional Treasurer, Graham Stevens, who will be happy to answer your questions or explain something you don't understand.

The web address for the Region's Yahoo Group "Files" section is:   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CFA-SR/files/ .

Increased Fees

Please note that effective 12/01/10 the surcharge on entries at our shows goes from $1 per entry to $2 per entry.

Also, the insurance fee has been increased from $15/year to $40/year.  Thus, the 2011 dues/insurance that clubs pay to CFA is now $120.   If your club paid their 2011 dues prior to the Board vote to increase the insurance fee, that is they were received prior to 8/20/10, the increase is waived.

Show Rule Reminder

At the Board Meeting held on June 27, 2010, the National Show Scheduling Committee was abolished.   Show Rule 12.03c still requires approval of the Regional Director when a club wishes to change their date or move to a different city.  If the Regional Director has no problem with the date/city change, the RD then needs to check with neighboring Regional Directors to see if they might have a problem with the request.

I recently approved a change of date for Platinum Coast CF in southern Florida.  Starting in 2011, they are moving from July to the 2nd weekend of November.

2011 Annual Meeting

Capital Elite Pin
Capital Elite Pin
As you know, we are hosting the 2011 Annual in Reston VA, near Dulles Airport in suburban Washington DC.  For a variety of reasons, there is a lot of interest in attending this year's Annual, so we expect more delegates than seen at recent Annuals.   Annual co-chairs Susan Cook Henry & Donna Jean Thompson have a great group of volunteers from around our Region who are toiling away to make sure this is an Annual of which we can all be proud.  We have a number of fund-raising plans for the year.  One of them is the purchase of Capital Elite pins.   There are only 100 of them for sale and they are $100 each.  They are selling well and we anticipate selling out long before the Annual.   If you are interested in buying one, contact either Karen Boyce or Donna Jean (email addresses below).  For other fundraising ideas or ways you can contribute as a club or individual, refer to Karen Boyce's fundraising letter.  You can even use PayPal for your donations/purchases of any kind.

Flickr Regional Photos

Photographer
Each month we upload photos from our shows of our exhibitors, judges, etc. to our Region's own Flickr site.  I try to upload new photos at the beginning of each month.   We placed 75 photos there at the beginning of August and another set will be added at the beginning of September.  To see them, just to go the Region's web site and click on the graphic of the photographer.

2011 Regional Fund-Raiser

There was no fund-raiser scheduled in our Region for 2010.  Cat Club of the Palm Beaches moved their traditional show from the 4th weekend of November to the third weekend of that month to take advantage of the hole in our schedule this year.

Although I previously posted that the North Atlantic Regional Director invited us to hold a joint-venture fund raiser on the third weekend of November, 2011 (the weekend previously used for the CFA International Cat Show), he has changed his mind.  President Hamza encourages us to use that weekend for regional fund-raising, so I am working to come up with a Region 7 fund-raiser.   When I have things firmed up, I'll be sure to share the details.

New Chairs for CFA Clerking Program

Cheryl Coleman
Cheryl2
President Jerry Hamza recently appointed Bethany Colilla (Ohio) and Cheryl Coleman (Maryland) to serve as co-chairs of the CFA Clerking Program.   Congratulations to both and we are particularly proud of our region's co-chair.   They have some exciting ideas for bringing this important program into the 21st century.   We wish them the best.

New Website for Regional Clerks

Cage Card
Mary Kolencik, Teresa Keiger, and several other SR master clerks are putting together a website to support the Southern Region's clerks. The site will have information for both new and experienced clerks, including a blog. If there are any clerks (of any level) interested in participating by writing tips, articles or blog posts, contact Mary (mdsiamese@yahoo.com). Blogging is easy with the Wordpress interface, as easy as writing an email, and the more clerks blogging the better!

The Good Stuff

I reserve this section of each Newsletter to make a positive comment about some people that are making a difference.

I recently learned that one of our clubs, Cats Exclusive, has their own adoption center for cats looking for new homes.   I understand it is in a small strip mall.  According to their website, it is a no-kill facility that can house up to 60 cats at a time and they have taken in over 5,600 cats since opening their doors.  They fund their facility from their annual cat show's proceeds as well as from their own low cost clinic that opened in 2007.  Check out their website

2010 Regional Winners

YouTube
For those who may have missed it ... or just want a trip down memory lane ... we have photos of last season's winners displayed in several formats.  For a simple, static display of the photos, courtesy of MaryK, go to the region's web page for the 2010 winners and click on the class.

Ande DeGeer has created a YouTube video of these cats with a link from the same web page.  MaryK also created an Animoto video with music in the background with the Regional Winners and you can find it on this same web page.   So many choices!

Feedback

One of my jobs is to represent you at the Board table.  If I am to be effective doing that, you need to provide me with input.  I am working hard to provide you with information on what's going on and you have a responsibility to give me guidance on how you want me to vote, etc.  Let me hear from you when there is an issue that concerns you.

If you have questions or want to share a concern, please email  me.  I am very responsive.
